This print was inspired by a rare total Lunar Eclipse of the Super Full Moon that occurred on September 28, 2015.

In recent years, the term Blood Moon has become popular when referring to the total lunar eclipses of the 2014-2015 lunar tetrads. A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the sun, Earth and moon are aligned with the Earth in the middle. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the moon's location relative to its orbital nodes. This light looks red for the same reason that the sunset looks red, due to rayleigh scattering of the more blue light. Because of its reddish color, a total lunar eclipse is sometimes called a blood moon.

This print will be sandwiched in newsprint and tucked into a mailing tube for safe transport.
